About Abel Ferrara talks to Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire

In this video, French filmmaker Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire is interviewed by American film director, Abel Ferrara. The two met at the Moscow Film Festival, where Ferrara was a jury member and Sauvaire was awarded the $50,000 cash prize for Best Film.

In the interview, Sauvaire talks about his film, "Johnny Mad Dog," which is about child soldiers fighting a war in an unnamed African country. He mentions that he preferred having real victims in his film instead of actors, because they know the truth and add a more realistic feel to the movie. After making his first film"Savage Nights," Sauvaire moved to Colombia to shoot a film about the child murders executed by Pablo Escobar during the early 1990s. This film demonstrated all the political problems occurring in Colombia at the time. Due to a civil war, Sauvaire could not finish this feature film and returned to Paris. For the next 10 years, he traveled back and forth between Colombia and France to shoot the documentary "Carlitios Medilin," about the confessions of mothers, wives and family members affected by the violence during the civil war. Sauvaire is currently working on a experimental film in New York City.
